So.......   How do stigmas work?  For that matter, any quick guides to explain the different combat mechanics in this game?  I keep being at a loss of how the different abilities beyond the basic ones actually work.

As far as stigmas go, think of it kind of like the powers in warhammer, where you had your core powers, then you could open your career tree and choose additional powers, this is what stigmas are like, they allow you to customize your character by choosing additional powers, some of these are basic stigmas, and some of them are advanced, where the advanced stigmas will have prerequisites, so you will not be able to pick it until you also chose x,y, and z from the basic stigmas.

RANGER BUILD

My current ranger build, only a projection as of now. Comments? Concerns? Other possible arrangements that might suit me/the group better?

edit to the edits: Most of them are set in stone, with the exception of the 4th basic; Retreating Slash. This stigma does a quick slash to the target, not dealing damage worth a shit, but it pushes me back 25m and stuns the enemy for about 3 seconds. While this seems insatiably useful in PvP, I'm still stuck between it and two others: Silence Arrow and Sleep Arrow.

Sleep arrow has it's obvious appeal, 12 second sleep timer. However... it also gives them a ridiculous elemental defense buff that would in the long run do more damage to our group playability than harm. Silence arrow looks like sex in a button. 2-8 second stun is fantastic in pvp. The only thing I'm unsure of is which to use. Silence arrow seems almost identical to the retreating slash, only with a bit of a longer stun.

After typing this, I'm feeling more confident in dropping the idea of sleep arrow. I'm stuck between retreating slash and silence arrow now, though. Do I want to have a close range CC to keep me going in the event that my kiting is ineffective or if I get ganked? Or do I want to be the stun gun asshole from afar who pegs a prick with a long stun and kills him before he can really move or do any damage effectively?

edit #2: What the fuck is a stigma shard? Obviously a shard that you exchange for the stigmas ... But how are they acquired? Quests? PvP kills? PvE kills? Dumb luck?

Dont know a whole lot about stigmas but yes they are acquired through quests and pvp.

As for your build, both powers are great, depends on if you solo a lot or if your always going to be grouping.
If you solo or enjoy doing 1v1s, retreating slash will be great for that.

However, Vindictive steamrolls people as a group, and with that, stunning a mofo from range and then attacking with several people whilst he's stunned will be a pretty good feeling.

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking. Another thing I could do is interchange them based on the situation, assuming they are interchangeable? I might get to lax to do that and just stick with the stun arrow though.

While it's on my mind, I'm gonna set up a macro to cast all 3 dmg buffs in a row. Each one lasts for a minute, so that'll work out well.
