I know I know, I'm a little chickenshit running around with my head cut off when it comes to games and new arrivals. I just can't get enough.
On to the point: All Points Bulletin.
What it is, you ask?
Have you ever played Grand Theft Auto? The gameplay is similar, with a few key differences. My favorite difference being the fact that it is 100% ONLINE GAMEPLAY. A difference that will disappoint spine: There aren't any hookers in APB, nor is their nudity. The development team doesn't want to be focused on smut at all, they want the game to be entirely on the gameplay and interaction between players.
On to the juicy stuff: There are two factions, at this time with NO transferrability from one side to the other(CoH/CoV recent update). The criminals, and the Enforcers. Criminals are criminals are criminals. Establish gangs, join in on intense struggles for power with other gangs. All kinds of interactive missions are available, and for better descriptions/depictions check out the podcasts here. They actually completely renovated the site, seemingly just today because it wasn't like this yesterday.
The new site has video clips for all of the top tabs, so be sure to watch them all. The one for sides(Criminal/enforcer) is interactive, click the character you want to see. The podcast list(there are 18 or so 5-10 minute long podcasts in the full list) can be found by clicking Media at the bottom and the link to a full list which leads to a youtube account with them all.
I could describe with words all of the concepts of the game, but honestly these videos do it MUCH better justice. I will mention that the customization is absolutely VAST, comparable to CoH/CO, which might intrigue a few of you guys. Vehicle customization is similar as well.
I haven't had the opportunity to play as they didn't invite me to the beta (sadface), so I can't talk into my personal experiences. It's been said to be expected THIS quarter, and everything is pointing to Spring '10 or at least in the first half of the year. I'm optimistic to see it in May, but who knows.
Sorry again for dragging you all along from game to game <3 I mean only the best. GA is a great game, pending the fact that you have people to play with. Same goes for BFBC2, and most definitely this one. I've got about 15 people coming to it, and if anyone here wants to join in on our fun please let me know
EDIT: Back to the online game play. A world has 100,000 players in it. They expect 10-50,000 on at a given time, or so I think. The way the online world works: There are 100 player 'cities.' It automatically places you in a city that has a good amount of players, or you can choose to join your friends in their city. There is interactive matchmaking all over the place, so if one mission has a side overwheliming the other, the game interactively calls for help from other people of the same faction, and they can come in to join the fight. Just looking at some of the podcasts you can see them focusing on their main mission, driving through the streets with enemies chasing them. While driving, there are several battles they go through that have absolutely nothing to do with them. It's really neat and I simply can't wait.
Also, for music, it utillizes last.fm technology. You can upload your own music, broadcast it from your vehicle for others to hear. If other players don't have that specific track, it will take the basice genre you played and select a song from their track list to ensure that the feel you are going for is still presented.
