AoC versus CoX and WoW? WTF!!!

I had to admit it. My brother Aurelio, aka "Angel Omega" and I didn't think Age of Conan had a chance against the mighty World of Warcraft. After all, WoW players are supposed to be hard core loyalists. They would never leave my brother's WoW guild for such a puny game such as AoC. Yet, by the time you read this post. AoC sales have sky rocketed well over a cool million! WTF? Thats amazing if you keep in mind that this game is less than a month old? A few days after AoC was released. I went to the happiest place on earth. My local Best Buy retailer to try to purchase a copy of AoC. To my supprise they were sold out and I had to wait one or more weeks until the next shipment. When I finally got a copy of AoC and installed it. I was blown away by the graphics and game play. Its a combination of the coolness factor mixed in with a little bad attitude that makes this MMO fun. Not to mention that there is something appealing about chopping off heads and blood splatter on screen. It's the Mortal Kombat of MMO's. Sweet. I bet those boys at Blizzard are sweating bullets by now. That makes it all the sweeter. What about CoX?  Please. Docent even come close. Heads will roll. Chop! Chop! Thats the head of Blizzard's Senior V.P.of sales just got nerfed.

RE: AoC versus CoX and WoW? WTF!!! ?

Wow, that's crazy. I haven't really been keeping track of the sales. But I think that's what WoW did in its first month right? 1 million?

Honestly, it's going to be close if AoC is able to challenge WoW. Keep in mind sales don't neccesarily translate to subscriptions. A lot of the people who bought could have hated the game and cancelled after the free month. So concrete data will come out sometime later this year.

I think it has a good chance. It seems the community's thriving and a lot of people are staying. You can also see that Blizzard is responding to AoC and WAR by incorporating some of the features each game offers with the upcoming expansion.

WoW will eventually die off like every MMO. I don't think its death is anywhere close to be honest. I can't say the same for CoH after WAR comes out later this year, and then Champions in '09. But we'll have to see.

Regardless, I freakin' love AoC.

WoW will eventually die off, yes, but not anytime soon.  This Fall their next expansion comes out and we finally visit Northrend and after all is said and done, take on Arthas the Litch King.  The lore alone will draw in ppl who have left for AoC and like Tryden said, sales =/= subscriptions.  I already canceled my account and you also have to remember that AoC's rating, hard requirements, and other things will keep it from being as popular as WoW is now.

RE: AoC versus CoX and WoW? WTF!!! ?

My WoW account will expire at the end of this month. Amen to that.

I soloed my pally quest for my charger mount and Blood Knight talbard. I worked hard to grind to 70 levels. Not to mention that I grinded away allies for pvp epic gear. Then, I got to grind away a reputation to get an epic mount?.They can keep their epic mount 5000 gold piece price tag! Oh, I'm supposed to grind 5000 gold now? No way will I grind another WoW toon.

Id rather go chop off some heads! Chop! Chop! It's AoC for me.

Alot of what you've said in your post is highly subjective, and can not be used to make an objective argument of one MMO versus another. While it is possible that some people will enjoy the nudity, violence, and different combat system of AoC; many people such as myself will find it over the top and return to CoX, WoW, or whatever they were playing.

Hock already beat me to the rest of my argument =/.

COX needs more to do for sure, and more variety in general... I'm curious about AOC, but I unfortunately don't deal well with gore, just never have... Watching people's arms flying off in slow motion in Jedi Academy was pushing it for me. :p I would probably get able to get use to it, but with Champions coming soon, I'm leaning towards waiting for that game. In the end though, I may just be waiting for my addiction to Racing Sims to return. 10 years of being hardcore into racing games and editing them, 2 year hiatus isn't that long in comparison.

Ofcourse my opinions are highly subjected. It's a matter of individual tastes and  likes when it comes down to any game. Not just MMO's When a game has a mature rating tag slapped on the box. That's a little clue, that particular game might be too offensive for some people.
face_shock.gif
For example, Grand Theft Auto X. I think it's an awesome game. Highly violent and full of adult content. Yes, and nudity. But I wouldn't play it in front of a church group. Let alone my five year old nice. Unfortunately, kids do get their hands on them anyway. Largely do to poor parenting supervision. But that's another subject. WoW and CoX will always have their hard core fan base. AoC just thinned out their ranks little more.  Chop! Chop!     Jorge.

The blood and gore issues in this MMO does push it over the top for allot of people. I personally take that for granted. I work in a E.R. trauma center, so watching human anatomy parts at it's worst is as common to me as licking a lolly pop.

It's definitely not for everyone.        Jorge.

Btw, my three favorite race games are Super Mario Kart, Grand Tourismo X and Burnout Extreme.

RE: AoC versus CoX and WoW? WTF!!! ?

I remember back in the day playing Super Mario Kart.. and playing it for hours.. You can't keep the kiddies away from the content. There still going to talk mom and dad into buying the game for them.
