Basics on Character Creation and Building

<span style="font-size: medium; ;">Alrighty, here's all I've learned so far about rolling and building decent toons in Champions.  So far I've pretty much dominated PvP and PvE with these basics in mind.  However, as more players (us and not us) come to master these basics more expanded schemes and builds will most likely evolve.</span><div><span style="font-size: medium; ;">
</span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium; ;">But!  Without further ado!</span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium; ;">
</span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium; ;">The ultimate and most basic unwritten (at least until Cryptic gets around to telling the playerbase about it....) is: </span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: 18px; color: rgb(0, 176, 240); ;"><span style="font-size: 16px; ;">
</span></span></div><div><span style="color: rgb(0, 176, 240); ;"><span style="font-size: medium; ;"><span style="text-decoration: underline; ;">SUPER STATS</span></span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 18px; ;"><span style="font-size: 16px; ;">Super Stats are your two main stats.  These are characteristicly determined by your Super Stat choices at levels 5 and level 13.  Examples of these choices are Super Strength, Super Dexterity, Super Constitution, etc.  There's one choice for each of the eight stats but you can only choose two.  These Super Stats not only are a huge boost right when you select them but also level with you.</span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 18px; ;"><span style="font-size: 16px; ;">
</span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 18px; ;"><span style="font-size: 16px; ;">Now there's one other main assist to building up your stats.  That would be:</span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 18px; ;"><span style="font-size: 16px; ;">
</span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: large; ;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 176, 240); ;"><span style="text-decoration: underline; ;">Talents</span></span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 18px; ;"><span style="font-size: 16px; ;">There's two categories of Talents.  The first one is almost chosen for you if you're not careful.  This is the Innate Talent at level 1.  For most folks who pick a Framework (powerset) and just click next to get to the Character Creater screens you'll have an Innate Talent selected for you.  These auto-selects can be alright.  Typically though a player can make a better selection once they decide how they want to build the toon.  Each Framework has its own unique Innate pre-selected that isn't (as of the Open Beta...) re-selectable once you opt out of it.</span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 18px; ;"><span style="font-size: 16px; ;">
</span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 18px; ;"><span style="font-size: 16px; ;">"Well, Jared, how do I pick my own Innate Talent then?"  Glad you asked!</span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 18px; ;"><span style="font-size: 16px; ;">
</span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 18px; ;"><span style="font-size: 16px; ;">When making the toon click on Custom Framework.  Go ahead and pick an Energy Builder power and a level one regular power (no probs with picking the two from the Framework you wanted initially) and then it will ask you which Innate Talent you'd like.  These will give at least +4 or +5 to everything and up to +12 to a few selects stats.  There's quite a selection so look them over.  I'll post after this explaining the pros and cons of each Innate.</span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 18px; ;"><span style="font-size: 16px; ;">
</span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 18px; ;"><span style="font-size: 16px; ;">Next, you have your regular Talents.  You'll get these at levels 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 and 21 as fas as I know.  The list of normal Talents is EXTENSIVE.  These normal Talents are for fleshing out your character's stats overall and/or building up what s/he is good at.</span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 18px; ;"><span style="font-size: 16px; ;">
</span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 18px; ;"><span style="font-size: 16px; ;">
</span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 18px; ;"><span style="font-size: 16px; ;">So, I've explained that there's two main important stats (Super Stats) and these Talent thingies.  So what?  How does this actually WORK for the character?  Well, since there's the two Super Stats, these two stats determine ALMOST EVERYTHING about your character.  It will determine most of the damage you will deal with your powers how well your buffs will work and how effective some of your pets' abilities will be too.  Some stats are better for certain things!  Strength is good for melee damage.  Presence will help your pets no matter what.  Constitution goes straight to calculating hitpoints, etc.  The game can explain all that in more or less detial.  The important part of this post is to simply explain Super Stats and how they will determine much of your character's ability and potential.</span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 18px; ;"><span style="font-size: 16px; ;">
</span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 18px; ;"><span style="font-size: 16px; ;">An excellent combo that at first glance wouldn't seem to roll all that well is Int/End.  Putting these two togther will make all powers cheaper to cast and you'll have more Endurance as well.  ON TOP OF THIS they will still determine damage output and all that fancy stuff.  Another personal fav of mine is Dex/Ego.  I've gotten some great Critical damage output with this and its pretty nice in PvP to have silly criticals (even on my energy builder attack XD).  I'm sure any combo can work but some will have some interesting synergy.</span></span></div>

Just wanted to add to the previous post that a lot of powers will also say which stats will improve them.<div>
</div><div>For example, the innate passive buff from Fire, Thermal Reverberation allows the user to drain energy from anything that is affected by Clinging Flame.  The amount of energy drained is affected by how much Presence the user has.</div>

A couple of things I've noticed as well that can help:<div>
</div><div>1.  Using the Hero innate template and picking appropriate selections from the bottom of the talent list up gives you more overall points than specializing your picks towards 1 or 2 stats.  (Jack of All Trades, Survival Training, etc.)</div><div>2.  Having a good distribution of stats helps overall, not making you a one-trick pony.</div><div>3.  You still get a great deal of specialization from your Super Stats, so generalizing with talents and specializing with super stats seem to work well together.</div><div>4.  Con as a super stat still rocks, though that has been diminished a bit by the increases to other stats and what they affect.</div><div>
</div>
