Guide to RvR

Armai

Member
I am going to start this thread on RvR to say thank you to all of our guild members who have been participating in the RvR Warbands that I have been leading. All of the battles we have seen so far have gone pretty damn close to text book on your end. These outings would not be succesful w/o out any of you, remember a leader is only as good as the people he has with him.

I have a few tips and tactic for a successful WB from the up and coming T2 and T3 WB leaders.
1. Do not take any shit from the people in your WB, this does not mean treat them with disrespect but let them know this is your WB and you are in charge. If they do not like it they can leave. Do not let them disrespect other  players as well kick their ass from the WB when it starts to get out of hand. ( You may want to give someone a warning, but me being the ASSHOLE I am I just kick em no warning.)
2. No single person in the WB is bigger than the WB as a whole, remember that Keep swapping helps people get lootz ( most people are loot whores) and keeps them satisfied, but BFO's are important as well for the renown and inf bonus they bring.
3. Remember to have fun as a WB leader if you are not having fun the odds are your members are not having fun as well.

On to the tactics of this Missive
ATTACKING
1.) Always take a Keep first in whatever area you are in, taking a BFO will just alert them to your pressence in the area. With that being said if you decide that there is overwhelming numbers agianst you take the BFO's first then move to another map area and try to take that keep.
2.) When attacking a Keep always have your Ranged and Squig Herders hit the oil first, make sure they know their jobs before they get there.
3.) Always have a dedicated group in your WB as a postern group, ( I recomend a High DPS group i.e. multiple WE, 1 SQUIG, SHAMAN, and a TANK. This is the confg I tend to use. It has worked best for me.) Now putting a group on the postern door adds one more responsibilty to you as the WB leader, you now have to call out the percentage of the door. I usually bring my group back from the postern at 25%-10% depending on the keep.
4.) It is a good idea to let people know everytime that you want the ram on the door before the oil goes down, do not worry about your tanks they can take the oil damage and healers can generally heal through it. It is also a good idea to let all MELEE DPS know to STAY AWAY from the door until you tell them to hit. Usually send them in after the oil comes down ( I have put DPS on the door a few times when the door is really close to coming down and the ram is dead, but beware if you do not have healers on their game they will die and get no rez's.)
5.) Ok when the door is down ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS rush the KEEP LORD forget the mobs on the bottom floor and the mobs upstairs, the lord dies and the mobs are not a issue. Also do not worry about the ORDER PLAYERS keep lord dies and they are screwed and if the keep lord is not dead you were screwed to beging with.
6.) If you see ORDER defeding the keep and their numbers out number you two to one you really have two choices one keep feeding them renown and influence by throwing suiciede waves at them or you can pull them from the keeps by feinting to take a BFO and draw them out to your WB it has been proven that destro kills better in the open fields.( A word of advice this is common sense but sometimes common sense is not very common. Go for their healers and mages first they die the easiest and w/o healers they are FUCKED.

DEFENDING
Ok it's time for DEFENSE what do I do, no worries I have you covered on that one.

A little word of warning player do not generally like to sit around and like to WAIT they get BORED way to easy it is like a instant case of ADHD for everyone. Getting your wb to sit around and wait is the sign of a really successful leader.

1.) Make sure everyone comes prepaired you will need OIL and SEIGE WEAPONS.
2.) Put a TANK and a HEALER maning the OIL, tank on the oil obviously and healer backing him up. ( Just a reminder tell your tank to repair the oil at about mid health on the oil.)
3.) I always like to make a TANK WALL at the inside keep door, supported by a few healers and MELEE DPS.
4.) Using RANGED DPS on the walls, I like to focus on the HEALERS once they are gone the rest of their WB is just like able to be mowed down.
5.) Keep your healers out of sight if at all possible, they can be effective healers and not be seen by the enemy most of time.

These are just a few simple tactics that I use, these are no means rules of engament. Use your own creativity and discretion when pwning ORDER.

GOOD LUCK and tell them Winterbourne sent ya as they die.

Playing a healer in RvR:

-In order to keep healers out of sight, have people run back into the lord room when they need a heal. When people are getting low on health during a keep defense, they will 95% of the time freak out, run around randomly, probably fall off the keep and die. They won't get a res for 2 reasons: they are stupid and it's almost impossible to res someone if they fall into a stupid crevace or another ridiculous location. The point of this is, tell people that if they want a heal, you have rules.

My rules as a healer: I have 2 general rules for anyone other than a tank who wants to be kept alive, because I have to focus heals on tanks obviously

-Use your detaunt if you are being raped on by a toon that really, really hurts. (This obviously doesn't apply to tanks.)

-If you are being beaten on too badly for me to heal you with just HoTs and my damage shield, you need to fall out of combat. Try to stand behind a tree or other object so they Bright Wizards and OP Engineers can't hit you and let their DoTs tick down. Run back and stand next to me, so at least if you do die, your chances of getting a res will be much higher.

Remember that as a healer, you need to focus on tanks. Keep your HoTs up on MDPS if they need it and use your AoE heal once you get it but tanks are your priority. If they DoTs on a DPS character are outdamaging your HoTs, then they need to learn to use their detaunt and fall back. NEVER waste 3 seconds casting a big heal on DPS unless all your tanks are going to be fine and you know this for fact.

Witch hunters will always target you first and rape you. Hit your detaunt and put your HoTs up on yourself and you will stay at 100% and can keep healing (this is a risky tactic and involves you having a high Willpower.) Nothing aggravates those sneaky bastards more than this tactic. LoLs for everyone. If you are running a guild scenario and you on vent, call out whenever you are being attacked. Witch Hunters shit their pants when they break stealth to attack you, and suddenly 9 people turn around and kill him in exactly .25 seconds. He will most likely never try to target you first again. LoLs for everyone.

Now of course everyone is reading this thread for ONE reason.....

Everyone wants to know how Armai (on Winterbourne) and myself fended off an entire warband at Barak Varr Keep with limited numbers of players and yet they couldn't even take down the door. So I will tell you a few Vindictive tactics.

-You already read Armai's thread-starter, so you know that player morale is important. Like he said, if you want your players listening to you, they need to respect you enough to not snap into an instant case of pre-pubescant ADHD. Obviously Winterbourne has this effect on everyone in his Warband because of his his track record. Our tanks stood behind the door, waiting for it to drop for that entire hour without getting bored! That's leadership right there. I used a few of my old tricks with the warband to make my job as a healer easier. First of all, Winterbourne was running oil. If you are running oil, attacks want to kill you so they can drop the oil ASAP. What they will do in most cases is hit the oil with every AoE attack they have so their effects will spread to the guy on oil because they can't target you behind the oil. I asked Winterbourned to stand up against the wall while running the oil and Voila! Winter didn't get lower than 95% during that entire defense if memory serves. This is my favorite technique because it also works with RDPS on the walls. Have your RDPS stand at least 20 yards apart from each other and spread out. You should have a few guys on the left side of the oil spread out evenly, with their own healer. You should have about 5-6 RDPS on the right side of the oil, 4 of them can stand on the ledge and 1 or 2 in the slits out front. They also get their own dedicated healer. Now no one suffers damage from AoE, or at least if they do, it's very little because any AoE over 20 yards in size is pathetic. YAY!  :) Armai touched on using tanks as a tank wall behind the door, for those of you who couldn't figure out why to do this: Once the door goes down, all the order rush forward to try and get inside, but they cant' get past the tanks who are spamming Hold The Line! and die from oil. LOLs for everyone.

I believe Gritz described this defense as "epic dude, omg this is so crazy, this is seriously epic." Lawl.
