SS/Fire or EM/Fire for a tanker?

So I don't really have a melee character hero side. I've decided I want to make a tanker, and out of the all the sets like fire the best. I want this to be a PvP tanker mainly. I heard SS/Fire is really good in SC because you don't get TF and ET until later in EM, while all the SS big hitters are pre-30.

So, what would you guys recommend?
 
why don't you make a WP/* tanker. Plus there is no such thing as SS/Fire or EM/FIre tank.
As for SC its stalker haven need toons with +precep. Ice armor, dev blaster etc I believe WP has +precep as well

Whatever, Fire/EM and Fire/SS.

And sorry to burst your bubble, but fire/ shields have awesome verasitility and it's all resists, whereas as ice/ has lol defense, which is garbage in PvP. Ice/ is definitely nice, but I'm more sold on fire/.

You also get a self heal which gives toxic resist in fire, as well as an end drain power and a +dmg power. Plus the minor perception you're talking about is useless in SC because most stalkers run three layers of stealth, which takes 4 yellows to see through.

Anyway, so back to the topic, what's better, a fire/SS or fire/EM tanker?
 
You nailed it on the head in your first post. Fire/Super is good in SC, but that's all you're going to get in WB and RV, because all your good powers you get by the time you're 30.

Where as Energy on the other hand, your best powers you get at 35 and 38 respectively. I have a Fire/Super at 40 and a Fire/Energy at 45, and I can safely say I like my Fire/Energy much better. No rage crash to worry about and it doesn't feel lacking in the arena or RV the way my Fire/Super does.

Final verdict? Fire/Energy all the way.
 
Well, I have a Fire/Fire Tank and an SS/Elec Brute so maybe I can help.

You're right that Fire Armor is t3h sh!t.  This is what your resistance will probably look like, or close to, with only SO's and Tough in your build:

71% Smash Resistance
71% Lethal Resistance
90% Fire Resistance
23% Cold Resistance
47% Energy Resistance
56% Negative Resistance
20% Toxic Resistance (With 1 Healing Flames.  You can easily stack 5.)
0% Psionic Resistance

As you can see, this is pretty damn pwns.  Healing Flames recharges in about 15 seconds and it heals for 80% of your health per activation.  You can LULZ at Scrappers since they'll do shit damage to you.  You can also kind of LULZ at those EM bastards because you got pretty good energy/smash resistance.

Now...for /SS or /EM.  /SS is definitely nice for the perma Rage and KO Blow is available for SC, which is where most of the pvp happens anyway.  Hurl is useful since you can knock those flying bastards out of the air or knock someone down as they're trying to run away from you.  /EM is nice because of its obvious less-resisted damage type and you can take out hard-to-kill targets, such as other Tanks, with your stun combo.

What I would recommend is /SS since perma rage is pretty damn nice for the consistantly high damage output as well as tohit buff and Foot Stomp.  Also, you already have an EM Brute and it would be a bit boring to level another EM toon to 50.

Problems with Fire/:
High endurance usage...very very high.  You got Consume but it's still hard to deal with those endurance-intensive powers.
No KB protection.  Yea you can use those IO's that helps with KB...but they're not strong enough in PvP situations and some PvE situations.  I would go Acrobatics.

Tanker dmg is fairly lol anyway. if your after something with a bit more DPS, a scrapper would be better.

some points to make.

1. lol melee
2. to fix that tanker, you need +health as you have no dull pain, +rechg as you want that overpowered heal to come up quicker, +recov +max end (4 sets of imperviums here are nice)
3. worst status protection evah..
4. you may aswell make a fire/ss tanker for SC as anything else your rad/psi could do better.

I just dont see Tankers killing at all, sure they have focused accuracy and a shit ton of health, but, why bother? before they nerfed blasters you could still kill a tanker under Aim and Build up, but now.. it just seems to be all about the status effects.

My advice (dont take it too seriously) is to find something that can hold through 1 breakfree (i got held through 8 Strength of Wills by a dominator, but thats another story) and has an uninterruptable heal, and i think you should be fine for both zone, and arena.

I still say go with a scrapper if you want something for melee.
You have a katana/regen right? just max dmg buff from IO sets, get some decent recharge and you will be fine, hell you can get phase shift and MoG now, its like you dont even need a secondary anymore.
 
Assasin strike is a crit so resists are n't gonna do much good and fire armor does not have DP that can boost your hp.
glacial armor, crystal armor or some other toggle along with tactics and precep IO should be able to allow you to see any stalker right next to you even if they are stealth capped.
