OK, so now that things have calmed down a bit, here's the low down on this one.

Macskulland Warface both got it right. When we looked at how the PVP system wasgoing to work with a rewards system, the result was pretty nasty. It'sa massive oversimplification, but normal players could not compete withexperienced PVP'rs, which wasn't much fun for the normal players.

PVPneeded to be reworked so a normal player had a reasonable chance ofbeating an experienced player. Otherwise, normal players simply willnot play if they have no chance of winning. Ending the /threadjackthere though.

The reason it's still offline is because anumber of the systems have been partially reworked for the changes. We're not exactly sure what would happen if base raids were turned onagain, so we're keeping it locked away in a cage over a deep pit fornow.

In fact, base pathing was removed not just because the baseeditors would have fun with it, but also because some of the bugscaused by changing items for raiding were not easily solvable. Yes,we'll be looking at options regarding base pathing. Considering somebases have almost a 3 items per square foot density, that particularsetup may not be viable. There are other ways around the pathingproblem though.

Hope that clarifies things a bit.

RE: The dev response in this thread is why I'll never...

Yeah, I don't even remotely get why it would be important for a SO'ed character to be able to make a 2billion infl build unimportant.  The whole damned POINT of MMOs is to work on a/some character/s to constantly improve it/them.<div>
</div><div>Not only did they also fail at making PVP something 'newbs' can get right into but they just made it more difficult.  Now, more than ever super-builds are killing foes in less than five seconds.  The only way to be good at CoH pvp at the moment is to *GASP* get more player experience and character improvement (as xp doesn't necessarily mean anything in CoH pvp).</div><div>
</div><div>Conversely,  I have to admit that Freedom pvp is still fun actually.  I jump in on a nightly basis and get a few rep points slowly working my way to PVP IOs and that badge.  To converse on my previous conversal, I must also admit it was MORE fun before issue 13.</div>

RE: The dev response in this thread is why I'll never...

I've always thought IO sets and especially the set bonuses, while cool, where gonna create huge issues. Just like raising the level cap, it showed how little foresight the devs have. The whole thing with PVP is totally lame... They don't have a clue what they are doing when it comes to PVP. All the changes they made failed to achieve their goals for PVP. All it did in the end was run a lot of players out of town. Honestly though, Mythic made a lot of changes to War that made even less sense than anything the devs here have done.

RE: The dev response in this thread is why I'll never...

I tend to agree.  Yeah, the devs in CoH made some odd mistakes towards pvp but Mythic plain out made their pvp-centric game LESS fun than CoH and a jillion levels...

RE: The dev response in this thread is why I'll never...

How did PvP in WAR changedededed?

RE: The dev response in this thread is why I'll never...

Clay has probably the most informed and objective info on this but I believe it went along lines making Tanks less survivable or they reduced their aggro management abilities and a host of other things that were generally counter-intuitive to the various builds, like they reduced dmg on DPS classes and made support classes out DPS them....<div>
</div><div>So... yeah.</div>

RE: The dev response in this thread is why I'll never...

Honestly, I really want to like CoH/V again, but just something about the same door to door missions over and over again are killing me.  The only reason I stayed for an extra year (last year) was because of PvP and base raids...and now that base raid is out and PvP is fucked in general, I don't think I'll ever come back.

My force senses are picking up some sarcasm here... But yeah, Mythic buffed what was the strongest class in PVP already, and made them so powerful that one of them with a decent healer could wipe a full warband. And kept it that way for about a month, insisting there was nothing wrong what so ever. At the same time, they nerfed a lot of classes that were struggling to be viable. Or nerfed the single build that made them viable. And the damage resistance nerf that they put into place made tanks fairly worthless for any kind of open field PVP battling. They couldn't take anymore damage than anyone else there outside of a few tactics they got, nor could they deal as much daamge as anyone else. Taunt was broken for awhile, and was pretty shit at holding aggro anyways.

Spine, you reflect my sentaments on COX pretty much exactly. I got friends who I think still play that I would like to chat with, but I want to stick a pencil in my temple at times when trying to play that game anymore.

RE: The dev response in this thread is why I'll never...

Judging from your signature Claymore, you should make an appearance in Spine's "oh how I love my new signature" thread

RE: The dev response in this thread is why I'll never...

I'd say Claymore's obsessed with you and me, Tryden <3

RE: The dev response in this thread is why I'll never...

Lol. What can I say Tryden, you rarely have a good burn, but when you come up with a good one, it's pretty awesome. Someone has to preserve these moments for future generations...

I cant say I agree with all of this but yes there were problems.  I never personally had the Taunt problem nor the holding aggro problem.  The damage issue I think was people just stacking stats wrong (At the time, myself included).  On the scale of basically 0 to 1000 my current Strength is 715 with 60 Melee Power in addition (Melee power counting at 3 points of Strength per point of Melee Power that ignores the cap) Toughness of 1200 (yes over the 1000 due to an ability) and Wounds at 912.  This is with Sword and Shield so its not 2 hander DPS spec.  My resistances are all in the 400's somewhere which I think the cap on those is around the 700 mark.  The resistances are easily Cap'd my any Chosen running an Aura or a Zealot giving me a Buff.

What I think happened when most of you left, was at the time you simply didnt have the gear setup and renown ranks to compete with other 40 players.  I say this for Stat Purposes only, not personal skil levels.  Its even worse when your in your 30's fighting in T4 with people who have been 40 for a long enough time to also aquire the higher sets of gear and renown ranks you couldnt hope to see for a very long time.  If you didnt like the Dungeons in the end game already, you were pretty much screwed from getting the best weapons and armour sets right off the bat.  They tried to modify this by allowing you to "purchase" all of the PvP armour sets but that only helped some.  Sometimes the PvE sets were better for some classes then the PvP or just better for the build you were going for etc.

Ive been playing for a long time after you all left now, and while still not balanced to the level most would like, things do balance out considerably more the higher ranks you get.  Im currently a 40/60 BG and its made a huge difference in what gear I can wear and just my stats in general through Renown Point expenditure.

The comment about a BW with a healer being able to wipe a WB is also a gross over exaggeration.  A WB of people who didnt know how to play the game well.. maybe.  But anyone who had any ammount of decent payer skill would have no problem with any of these problems.  There are tactics to countering how people play, and more often then not, running head long into a 5 BW Rain of Fire Spam through a choke point was a bad idea.  But as you said this issue has been fixed and even more AoE changes are due out here soon. They include reducing the area of effect as well as putting the focus back on direct efect abilities and not AoE abilities.

Lets not forget most of our WAR experiance was ona crap server as well.  Having now been merged into a new server with a good population its made a huge diference int he play of the game.

I respect that you all generally did not enjoy your experiances with WAR (when you played) but those of us who have stuck it out have found that it does get more enjoyable at higher levels but most importantly on a servers with a higher population.  There are still issues needing work but what MMO doesnt have constant issues that need work?  Some are just better at getting the issues worked on faster then others.

RE: The dev response in this thread is why I'll never...

While that's all well and good, Marius, it kinda remains in that Mythic was in the end unable to retain customers for what they (the customers) felt was a lacking and not worth-while product.  Ultimatly it doesn't have anything to do with anything else other than that.  Mythic could not deliver a decent MMO to folks who've been playing MMO's since the genre was invented.

RE: The dev response in this thread is why I'll never...

I've gotta agree with Jared. You can argue stats, balance, and gear 'till your blue in the face (and with as long as I have been playing MMOs I have certainly been there). The problem was the game just wasn't fun after you hit 40. This in itself isn't a *huge* problem as alts are typically fun to play and give you a different view of the game. But once again, after playing through the story line once it just never felt fun to play an alt it merely felt like a grind to get to 40. Sure the devs can add new content, tweak the balance to make things more fair, but in the end if they don't deliver a product that people want to play then they have missed their mark....wait, wasn't this thread about CoX?
