This topic is just for fun.
To satisfy my own curiosity on why Spines Scrapper's damage doesn't look big in numbers but it turns out to do way more damage than it seems, I looked at Mid's Hero Designer =O.
The obvious thing about Spines is that it has -recharge, slows, and DoT Toxic (and range too). The -recharge and slows are significant. With the new Combat Attributes window, I was able to test with a friend in Arena just to see how much the -recharge was if I just continuosly attack. On someone that doesn't have -recharge resistance, if that person doesn't move away from me, I can keep a constant -40% recharge. Yea, that's a fucken lot...pretty much half of Hasten. This isn't even counting Quills and Quills does -8% recharge with each tic and they can stack up to 3-4 times.
Now, on to the DoT Toxic part. All of the powers for Spines Scrappers have a toxic component to them. Toxic is probably the least resisted damage type in the game and I believe that Spines Scrappers, Thorns Dominators, and Necro MM's are the only powerset in the game available to players that does any toxic damage.
With the help of Mid's, it was easy to find out that 30% of Spines's are Toxic damage. That's pretty much 30% unresistable damage. This is where a lot of people die when they're not careful, the big numbers that you see are just 70% of the damage, of course the DoT numbers (which are Toxic and makes up the other 30%) are obvious, but people tend to overlook small numbers.
Toxic damage can tic for up to 5 times. Granted they are DoT and are less affective in PvP, they're still useful since it makes it harder for others to Aid Self or use an interruptable power.
Just for reference, Broadsword's highest damaging power is 187 unslotted and Spine's highest damaging power is 156 unslotted. If you factor in the 30% rarely-resistable Toxic damage, then they do about the same damage...with Broadsword being a lot slower and having no -recharge or slows to it.
There is another primary for Scrapper that does a lot more than what its number is saying...Martial Arts. Yea, that sonofabitch crits like a mfker. But...I'll let Lanks fill you in on that =P
