Did I spell it right?
Well, I know that you majored in textiles - I hope you don't mind if I shoot related questions your way every now and then.

Today's question is: "Would you happen to know anything about embroidery?"

I am attempting to teach myself basic stitches (took a break for sanity and to ask if advice might possibly-if-I-ask-nicely be forthcoming) and am having difficulty getting started. I half remember something about an older sister taking home ec. in highschool and sewing on paper and made the leap that she was probably practicing stitches of some sort... so I am currently attempting "stem stitches" on printer paper with a few pencil marks to follow with the biggest needle I can find and some type of thread/yarn that my boyfriend brought home from work one day that I can only assume is some sort of large-ish tatting thread (tatting being another of my failed crafting attempts.)
I'll stop here to see if this does indeed fall in your area of expertise before I ramble on with questions.
Thank you, and I hope I'm not bugging you!~

Actually you did spell it right. Grats. Most don't.  I even had a teacher in middle school I had art with for three years and she still misspelled my name. <span>

</div><div>Unfortunately I don't know anything about embroidery.  The only thing I ever did that involved embroidery was just make a couple of shapes on some cloth dice baggy I made from my brother-in-law one christmas.  I didn't even look at different stiches at the time.  </div><div>
</div><div>The stuff I did was mostly weaving, dying, felting, surface design and screen printing (for fabric).  I did some three dimensional things including weaving, croche, coiling and spool knitting. </div><div>
</div><div>Also, I don't mind at all if you want to pick my brain for anything.  Lemme know if there is anything else on your mind.</div><div>
</div><div>Attn Vindictive, this is now an art forum as well </div><div>

so Hanna does all the extra hard stuff and none of the easy stuff, so if your a beginner ask her a question once you've been doing it for about 5years!

If you know how to crochet, you ought to give&nbsp;filet crochet&nbsp; a try. It's ridiculously easy because you only use two kinds of stitches, but looks impressive. You are basically doing art in giant pixels

As for embroidery, I decided to put "learn to embroider" back on the to-do list until I meet someone who can teach me. It's a bit too difficult to try to learn when you're already cranky from the heat anyway.
Thanks for the open invitation to your expertise, I'll definitely be making use of it.
