Like i said don't want to spend a crap load but still get a decent build.... to shock everyone I'm still running on the same PC that I had back in warhammer... only upgrade made was the graphics card and the memory :( :(

here is what im looking at:
Case.. any cheap one for now.

AMD FX-6300 3.50 GHz Six-Core AM3+ CPU 6MB L2 Cache
Asetek 510LC 120mm Liquid Cooling CPU Cooler
GIGABYTE 970A-DS3P AMD 970 ATX
4GB DDR3/1600MHz (for now)

gonna keep my graphics card for now (NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 2GB GDDR3)
also already have a 1000w power supply
also have windows 7 pro already

I'm looking for no more then spending $600

open for suggestions.

depending on where you live
a build like that should cost about $500

is that a cpu cooler you already have?

here's a build I'd do with that sort of budget:

You don't want to skimp on the mobo. This mobo will allow for pretty good upgradability of CPU if you ever chose to. Also it supports SLI/Crossfire so you can do that with graphics now or in the future. The SSHD drive by seagate is a pretty nice compromise between a ssd and a traditional drive. I have a couple myself and I enjoy them. The case isn't a "cheap case" but it is very nice quality, allows for great cable management and cooling. It's a case that will last and you can just keep it between builds.

as soon as i get my w2's ima be building a new computer as well. ITS GONNA BE A MONSTER MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

cant decide if i want a triple monitor setup or dual touchscreens.........

anyways i would grab the 8 core amd vs the 6 core dont know if it still fits your budget but its actually tons better and in the long haul will save you more money as you wont need to upgrade it for a while and games are still generally pretty cpu dependent.(ofcourse if its still out of your budget then yeah 6 core is a no brainer.) last but not least shop around and dont buy first thing you seee. sorry i cant give more details right now im at work =(

could easily throw a 8-core in there and fit under the $650 budget, so that's not a bad idea. The only problem with this system is that the bottleneck is the video card. With a more powerful CPU, at least for gaming, the benefits will not be fully realized because the bottleneck will still be the video card.

yes that is true, so i guess the sensible proposal would be to get a 6 core and find a newer graphics card that can still keep him/her( havent met you yet i dont think) under the budget.

edit: also if others are upgrading maybe they can give you there older graphics card if they are better, i would offer mine since i upgrade annually but i already promised it to a friend of mine who will be playing TESO with us.

Yeah, straight up, that 640 is not a gaming card. You have the best version of it, but performance-wise, it's in the same range as a GTS450. (former beats out on clocks, latter beats out on memory bandwidth).

If you're still on a budget, you can look at 660s, a lot which have clearance prices right now (sub-$150). You can also pick up a Radeon 270x for under $200. The performance will be better but the 660 gives more bang for the buck.

no the cooler is just the "cheapest price" i could find

Yeah I have been snooping around at altex around the corner looking at things and getting ideas but I do like the price on the items you picked.

The graphics card became a back burner item because it works for now but I can update at any time.

Just for laughs... this is what im running on right now so ANYTHING is a upgrade for me...

AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 4800+
4GB DDR2
MCP61PM-HM Motherboard
and the 640 graphics card

... the laughing may commence... :|

but now you see why i have/need to upgrade

any particular reason you want a water cooler?

and how much is that "cheapest one" you found?

no real reason back when i built my last pc it was a first gen water cooler and i never had a problem with it. Ever since i moved to Texas I have to clean out my fans and such like every 3 weeks. Wanted to try water cooling again to see if that solves the dust problem.
its like 39.99

and yes its like frankenstein here i have patched and fixed more items on the pc just to keep it running. but as of late it is having too many issues that are all hardware related.
