What if we could combine the Left4Dead engine/gameplay with takeaways from DayZ, Killing Floor, The Walking Dead, and Call of Duty Zombies? Well.. you would have Contagion. Guns are scarce.. ammunition is limited.. Zombie hits do real damage and melee weapons are not the best option when fighting a horde. The gameplay is a first-person shooter style with weapon sway. Don't forget.. headshots only if you want to drop the walkers. Oh... and there's no cross-hair so don't even think about trying to hip fire. You might want to aim and conserve that ammo!

While I'm not a big fan of the Free for All PVP mode, because frankly it doesn't cater to my tastes, the Extraction and Escape modes deliver a whole new Co-Op experience.
Escape = 8 human players spawn together with one weapon and limited ammunition. Dynamic and random mission objectives are texted to you on your in-game "smart-phone" telling you where to go to escape whichever map/level you are playing on, which is also dynamic. Gather more guns and ammo (and share them with your team mates) to prepare yourself to fight off the never-ending horde of zombies. Advance through the map and fight with your team to reach your escape. If you die, return to the map as a member of the zombie horde and give your friends the challenge they've been looking for.
Extraction = 8 human players spawn randomly with one weapon and limited ammunition. Pay attention to your in-game "smart-phone" and rally with your teammates. Search for weapons and ammunition, which is scarce, and be prepared to fend off zombies as you work together to save multiple unarmed civilians with dynamic spawns in the map. Protect and escort these unarmed civilians to the rally point for extraction. If you die, return to the map as a member of the zombie horde and give your friends the challenge they've been looking for.
