Shameless self promotion warning...<div>
</div><div>So as a student I am afforded many opportunities to do different things, one of those is our universities radio station. For those of you who like alt rock or need to be introduced to good music (I am looking at you Hanna and Jared who drew blanks when I said Brand New) you can tune in Thursdays from 11am-1pm (central) HERE</div><div>
</div><div>Course, you can listen any other time, but why the fuck would you do that when you have Pandora? :) </div>

I see what you did thar....<div>
</div><div>Yes I do live under a box and lack most any knowledge about popular culture of any sort.
face_blush.gif
</div><div>
</div><div>I will look into this radio of yours though.  Can we call in and harass you?</div><div>
</div><div>Also, Hanna, no h at the end. Please refer to xfire sig
face_wink.gif
</div>

I have no idea what you're talking about Hanna, I clearly never had an "h" at the end of you're name...

<div>
</div><div>And yes you can call, I do requests alot (if we have it). The number is 785-532-0919. If I don't have it one week I typically try and get it by next week. Do remember though, were a radio station so if you want to hear that underground mexican band that your little brother's friend talked about on his myspace, we won't have it. </div>

Oooh!  ooooooh!<div>
</div><div>Quick little reason as to why I don't particularly care for pop culture:</div><div>
</div><div>(This is in NO way meant to be offensive to anyone at all, more of the general mileu of society and thusly a social commentary/rant)</div><div>
</div><div>People are stupid.  Popularity is determined by the majority.  Thusly it is safe to assume that what is popular has a high probability of being stupid.</div><div>
</div><div>
</div><div>
</div><div>Now!  To counter myself, I will listen to your fancy "myu-zick" and most likely enjoy it
face_grin.gif
But the above is why I don't even bother keeping up with pop culture.  So far society has been pretty on par with the expectations of my hypothesis.</div><div>
</div><div>
</div><div>
</div><div>Epilogue:  Yes I am a hermit.  Have you SEEN what those idiots are doing to the world out there?</div>

Sorry but you lost my interest after that.

Haha.

But seriously, I'll get behind this. I'm still active with my alma mater newspaper, and we have a radio segment tacked onto a local broadcaster's airtime. I'm a big supporter of collge-media production

Also Brand New is pretty good.

Band New is a band? Never heard of them...

Is there gonna be Shinedown, and new Alice and Chains? Maybe some new Pearl Jam? Ya know, high quality new alt rock bands... Staind? Three Doors Down? Seether? Hinder? None of that White Stripes pop-rock bull shit...

When I was a young teen, even a little before that, Nevermind hit the airwaves, and the terms Alt-Rock and Alternative were coined... I got spoiled by the likes of Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Sound Garden, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, and Days of the New ruling the air waves. When Grunge ruled the earth, or at least the US... Oh the good old days... :p

Just throwing this out there, but Three Doors Down and Seether are terrible bands, the latter being especially generic. Ugh. And Staind? Might as well add Limp Bizkit because my respect for you just dropped that far.

Edit: Before this becomes a musical elitist thread, I'm covering my back and saying Brand New's latest album, Daisy, was a letdown. But the last two were solid.

</div><div>At the risk of being swept under the carpet like other embarrassments, I'm not going to tell you about my music tastes....</div>

Staind was a lot like Eminem.  As long as the lead singers life was all messed up and in turmoil, the music was good.  But as soon as they got their personal lives together, what came afterward was just sub par compared to previous material.

I checked Brand New, and the name is hardly fitting imo. Sound like just another whiny indy rock band with no balls... No talent, musicianship or originality showing there... They don't hold a candle to Shinedown as far as current Alt-Rock bands. Shinedown isn't exactly anything original, but they have loads of talent and skill. But on Sept. 29th, none of it will mater cause the Alice in Chains, gods of Alternative, will be returning with what looks like one epic album.

I wonder if Clay will start hating me if I say I always change the radio station if I hear Alice and Chains...  I like a good number of the other stuff he likes.  I'm just lazy and don't bother going out and looking for music that I may or may not like.  I acquire new music at the speed of a leaky facet, I'm lucky to get something new twice a year.  New being reletive in that something I didn't own before, not actually new.

</div><div>
</div><div>Claymore: You will hear those bands (especially Smashing Pumpkins, one of the best). However I gotta scratch my head at your definition of alt-rock. Shinedown, Seether, Three Doors Down, etc, all fall squarely into the Modern Hard Rock category and no where NEAR the alt-rock category. I understand that as of the early nineties Alice, Nirvana and the like were alt-rock but musical definitions change over time and I wouldn't consider Staind anything but Hard Rock.
</div><div>
</div><div>Hanna: Then that's what you have my show for, I shall point you in the direction of so much good music your hard drive will explode (ok, probably not)</div><div>
</div><div>Tryden: I must disagree with you on Brand New's latest (and that doesn't come out till the 22nd, *cough bittorrenter cough cough* :-D). I found it much better than The Devil and Jesus. This of course matters not as long as you agree their first was the best. :p</div><div>
</div><div>Jared: Word. </div><div>
</div><div>Worry not my (apparently rather opinionated audience) you shall hear a good variety of music. I said alt-rock because it was the easiest label to slap on my show (and I really wouldn't of guessed you guys cared that much, <3)
