FF XIV: ARR release date announced

Not sure if anyone else has kept up with this but they announced a release date a while ago for August 27th. FF xiv was a flop but this "reborn" version actually looks pretty fun. I've heard from some friends in beta this one is pretty fun and they made a ton of good improvements (I DIDN'T GET A GOD DAMN BETA INVITE AFTER THAT LONG ASS APPLICATION...)

Can't say I'm really feelin' the combat from the videos I've watched but hopefully it's more fun to play than to watch.

Anyone else planning on playing this?

I plan to give it a try. I loved FFXI and bought FFXIV *cough* Collectors Edition *cough* with high hopes. I was very let down... almost as much as I was with SWTOR.

Anyway I hear we will not have to repurchase so I will be giving it a shot.

I can't find any news about it, but I thought I heard somewhere that if ARR does not work out it could spell doom for Square Enix. Anyone else hear that?

I already have it pre-ordered. I was pretty addicted to XI (10 years) and this one has a lot of promise with a lot of the devs from the later years of XI working on this one.

I logged onto our Bloomberg terminal at work to check out this company's finances. Its margins are terrible and it has a lot of debt. It reported a huge loss in the most recent quarter, but seems like it was a one-time restructuring expense management was already anticipating. Doesn't look like it's on the verge of collapse, but it definitely has a lot of financial problems.

That being said, I wasn't able to find anything about how much Square Enix spent on remaking FF14 and what the ROI it's hoping to get out of it is.

I just remember back in 2010(When FFXIV was originally released) and remembered they were projecting huge profits... then saw when time came to announce profits, they were only off by 91.7%.

Side note: I think I read that if you had an account on the original XIV you would be given access to RR's beta. Did you get anything from them about this or am I totally wrong here?




I'm kind of glad I never bought XIV back when it came out. I played the beta and thought it was really well done at the time but luckily I just didn't get into it. I'm hoping I can get past the Aion-looking combat and enjoy this game (at least a little)

I think its if you paid atleast 90 days of sub you get 3 months free in the new one and get to bring over your previous name.

I believe this is correct, I am pretty sure this also got you into the beta and early access. It was called something like the Legacy Campaign I think. Otherwise I haven't gotten any emails about beta or early access. Even after I spent like 45 minutes to an hour filling out that beta signup ><

Last question, do you guys think they will have the translated quotes like they did in 11?

No, we do not. I am still trying to figure out if we get any game time. i.e. the first 30-days free.

Just got this from an email this morning:

"FFXIV: ARR is currently in the beta testing stage, with plans to begin the third phase of testing on <span tabindex="0" class="aQJ" data-term="goog_1218347597">June 14, 2013</span>. All players who hold a service account from Version 1.0 have been granted access to the beta test.

We welcome all players from Version 1.0 to download the beta client and see the myriad changes in FFXIV: ARR. <span style="color: #990f0f;">* Additional information regarding how to participate in the beta test will be sent at a later date<span>"</span>

<span style="color: #000000;">Not sure how long they want us to wait, if the download patching is anything like FFXI, it could take days to get everything going.

According to the same email:

"Furthermore, a two week "Welcome Back Campaign" will be held following the start of official service, allowing players from Version 1.0 to enjoy FFXIV: ARR free of charge for a limited time. We hope you will take this opportunity to play the game and experience FFXIV: ARR."

Got into beta this morning, all patched and ready to go. If you bought and registered v1.0 you should be able to get in. Anyway NDA has been lifted as of yesterday.

I got into beta today too, its alright. The map is god awful and GW2 has spoiled me.
