Anyone else thinking about playing this?

I used to play FFXI, and am currently entertaining the thought of jumping into this since my other interests have filed restraining orders against me.

Thoughts?
 
WoW friend of mine made me DL the beta( which was a bitch to get set up) actually. It's really pretty and..I guess interesting?..but something about the gameplay seems kind of..meh. I didn't get very far, though, since the beta closed soon after I finally got to play.

Yeah, the gameplay in FFXI at least took some getting used to.  It's rather an aquired taste.  My main gripe against the FF series is the stupid nonsense names they come up with.  Its almost as if they took a roomful of drunken monkey and some keyboards and took samples from the resulting text to use as zone and creature names.

so standard fantasy genre names? gotcha.
 
Looking at how much they screwed up FF XIII*, I'm a little hesistant to pick this up.

*I'm aware everyone's going to have their own opinions of this game, and I might be schooled by JRPG fanboys. BRING IT.
 
Well, I did like FFXI, and the only reason I quit was because the class I liked the best (dark knight) was despised by everyone who played the game and I couldnt get a party.

Eh, I'll agree they've kind of lost the magic with their obsession on making it pretty. And that FF 7 was probably the best FF that's so far been made. But 12 had a shitload of content. 13 did too.

The series just has weak storylines and shitty combat systems these days. But damn does it look good.

Wait, are we talking abour FFIV or FFXIV?  FFIV is fun but kinda short compared to FFI and FFVI, the only other 8-bit FFs I've finished.  

FFXIV got a pretty ruddy review on IGN, though, for whatever that's worth.
