Thinking about ditching Raidcall

So this weekend, a lot of people were locked out of Raidcall during guild missions because of a server error. This obviously isn't the first time we've had problems. A lot of people still get error 23 when trying to sign in. It's frustrating and we need reliable voice software.

Rosie has offered her Teamspeak server to us and Xylicon has offered his vent server. Just wanted to hear some ideas before I agree to either. Obviously, I'm also conscious of the fact that we had a few guild mission nights with 40+ people on. So we might need a 50 or 100 slot server like we had before Raidcall.

I'm willing to pay for another server again if we do go the 50+ route, but just wanted to hear ideas before we make a final decision. With Elder Scrolls Online less than three months away, and open beta on the horizon, I want to have something in place sooner rather than later.

the cabal i was in when I was playing TSW used Teamspeak 3, i had no complaints about it. I definitely liked it better than vent though.

I too was a fan of TS3, let me check something out with my company engineer. From what i understand was have 2 idle servers at our colo that i think we're paying for anyway. Other thoughts, possibly mumble, unlike TS3 and Vent you don't have to pay a licensing fee to make a server, so usually the rates are a bit cheaper compared to the others. https://www.mymumble.com/ is like $14 a month for a 50 slot server, you can get a free 5 slot server to test it out though.

Here are a few others:
https://mmo-mumble.com/ ($11.25 mo)
http://www.nfoservers.com/index.php Also does vent and TS hosting (Mumble $7.49 mo, Vent/TS3 $12.49 mo)
http://tserverhq.com/mumble-server They offer TS and mumble (Muble $6.60 mo TS3 $7.50 mo) *this one has something really interesting, Group Pay, they give you a code that allows multiple people to contribute*

Obviously moving to a server we don't have to pay for seems like a solid option, in which case again i prefer TS3, but if you don't want to interrupt them and we as a group want to pay for a server those are some options.

It was actually my first time hearing about RC when I joined. I always used Vent or TS back in the Counter-strike and Runescape days. lol

I can get a 100 slot mumble server for $6/month packaged with my starbound server I'm going to get

I've never used mumble, but I've heard good things.

Thanks guys for all your support. A lot of people have offered their servers/to pay, etc. It warms my heart to see all of you guys stepping up and wanting to help :*)

I'm going to be talking to Elric tonight about options. Aemon might be there. Apog, Mal, if you guys want to hop on Raidcall too that would be cool. (Anyone else who wants to come on with suggestions or ideas, you're more than welcome to). I want to figure out what the best option is for us. I have very little experience with Mumble. Is it Mac compatible? Before we switched to Raidcall I didn't know they had withdrawn Mac support. Obviously, we need a Mac compatible program so Ghost can get on. We can't have one of our leaders LEFT OUT IN THE COLD

I'm really leaning toward TS3 atm, but will go with whatever the best option is for us

I'll try and be there :]

I like teamspeak too actually, for that I could get 100 slots for about $11/month (if paid upfront for a year)

and I didn't know about the mac thing either

I miss hearing ghost :[

I play on a MacBook currently (but I run Vine, doesn't seem to work well for Ghost's Mac). ESO will be launching with Mac and PC versions so we need a com program for both

Anyway, will probably be on RC around 9 pm EST tonight

^ Worst part about raidcall

My feels. And i apologize about the mac issues lolol. Didn't know I was going to be playing video games in college, but then I met you guys and my faith in mmos and online relationships have been restored. I hope to find my soulmate in an mmo (just kidding).

this is what I was thinking

I'm certainly getting the starbound server

the initial discount isn't actually based on a time discount, also multiplay servers offers a clanpay system too :]

So we decided we're going with TS3.

(Sorry Elric, I had to go when you got on ;_; I didn't make a decision on who was paying/which server we used though without you being there)

If you're on tonight let me know whether your work can do a 50-slot server and the details. If not, no worries, some of us will pool our money and give it to Apog to pay for the server. Because that's a really good deal.

Is 50 slots going to be enough? I recall being to guild mission nights where it felt there were more than 50 people on. A lot of people on break from GW2 (me :? ) will be playing again with TESO.

I will also help with server costs if you need.

The most we had on at one time was 43, and that was because we recruited way more people than intended back in September. It was a fluke since we had a couple of unexpected group mergers.

That being said, we can always upgrade. We did talk about the fact that a lot of people are coming back from GW2 breaks for ESO, but right now ESO doesn't have any guild mission-like content where everyone will have to be on voice comms for a single event. I'll help pay for 100 if we do end up needing it.

Sidenote: Recruiting in ESO will be the same as in GW2. No mass recruiting. Even as tempting as it is to go back to our zerg days in an MMO with PvP end game. :3
