What game did everyone play that got them into MMOs?

For me it was Phantasy Star Online for the Dreamcast. That's right. First console MMO made way back in 2000. After that I didn't play them until WoW on launch day in November 2004. Then got into CoH/CoV during CoV launch.

What about everyone else?
 
I played ol Everquest back when it was well into it's hay-day.  Played that for a year or so then I got into Anarchy Online for a while.  After that it was Star Wars Galaxies but for being one of my favorite games (until those idiotic changes) I only played for about 6 months.  Then CoH right before CoV came out.

Been spandexing it out ever since

I started with Dark Age of Camelot in 2002. Two years later when CoH came out I changed to that (Infinity). I tried WoW when it came out later that year, but came back to CoH after my Molten Core/Black Wing Lair raiding guild broke up. I played CoH til early this year when I went back to WoW.

Now I'm hoping to upgrade my CPU and join everyone else in AoC.

I think my first ever online gaming experience with other players was Star Wars Battlefront 2. That was fun when it first came out. Now it sucks, no one uses anything but rocket launchers and kills 5 of their own teammates to get one person on the other team.... Man that was fun, when I got on a roll with an Engineer I would become unkillable. lol.

COH and COV are the only MMO's I've bought. I wanted to get COH back when they first launched the project. Probably 2 years before it went live. I followed it's development off and on, and check out the sight after launch a few times. I was in school at the time when it launched on a full ride from the rents and didn't exactly have the means to get it till 2 years ago when I got out of school.

I tried WoW, but I hated the interface and found the patching system to be too stupid to put up with... (Why the hell to you load the game up, and then check for patching and exit, do it over and over till you are current?) I played Eve Online for a few days or something. It's kinda cool but meh... Too passive and I hated having to click threw menus to do anything.
 
My first experience with a computer RPG was Ultima I and II on the awesome Amiga 500. Then it was Bard's Tale. My first real RPG MMO was CoV/CoH.

I started on Final Fantasy XI ....played for a year or so. Then a roommate picked up coh...at first I hated it. Felt cheap after playing FFXI for so long, but I kept messing around with it here and there and when CoV came out I was hooked in. Took a break from CoX to play WoW for a few months ....around the time tryden had his account so gracefully banned. Right now I'm playin AoC.

I'm totally forgetting something..
 
even though it's not really an MMO, it was the first game i played with ppl online on a computer: Aliens vs Predator 2.  Then i moved on to Halo and Monster Hunter until we come to CoV opening day.  Played it for around a year until Tryden suggested we try out WoW since Burning Crusade was coming out and CoV was getting stale.  So we did and I was hooked and outlvled everyone and they all quit or didn't play as much as me.  Been playing WoW since then until recently when i decided to take a nice long break from WoW until the expansion is near.  Now i ping-pong back and forth between Halo 3, CoH, and Monster Hunter Freedom 2.
 
My first MMORPG was Everquest - (Evercrack) and I play it for a little while. I was spent on MMO's and move on to FPS's to name a few Quake, Staresiege/Tribes, Mech Warrior, Unreal Tournament, Battlefield, Counter Strike, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Alien vsPredetor, Jedi Knights Jedi Acadacmy, Halo and Metal of Honor.  

I then came back to MMO's once again to try Star Wars Galaxies and it went to poop after they added the expansion and I left. Then I went on to play CoV first and then I got the CoX expansion enjoyed my first MMO and the longest played MMO for 2yrs, but I'm, playing Age Of Conan until I get bored with it. I'm a old school FPS dude, so I get bored easy. :\
 
everquest was my first online game too. an issue of computer gaming monthly gave the entire game as a free download, plus a 6 day trial. so i said what the hell and tried it.

long story short I got hooked. I played it until world of warcraft came out where I met Tryden playing his trigger happy mage Switchblade, lol. when CoV came out he asked me to join but I left online games for a bit. Then I finally bought it last year. i applied to vindictive without knowing it was tryden who led it. but we talked on vent and found out we were in the same guild in wow

. since then I don't play any games too much because my wife just had our first child.

but i am in warhammer beta right now, so if everyone plays that, well, see you guys there later this year.

I guess my first mmo was air warrior, which was a wworld war 2 airplane game. they also created legends of kesmai, a d and d type game. not to many others except halo and coh/v then aoc. tried wow but did like it very much.
 
Are there any people who played Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale or Neverwinter Nights? I'm a huge fan of the old school Bioware RPGs, and still play them from time to time. I think Bioware's also working on an MMO right now, which should be awesome. I heard rumours it might be linked with the Knights of the Old Republic franchise.
 
My MMO history started back on Ultima Online, then I went to Ever Quest, then Final Fantasy XI, then I tried WoW for all of 15 minutes, then I wound up in CoX

Yes! Also Fallout. Great games - I never played KoTOR though, but I heard it's amazing
 
OMG Try! Phantasy Star Online for dreamcast was my first also! Then I moved to Everquest for a long time. Bounced around a few other mmo and stayed on CoH/CoV for a long time.

other mmos I played just long enough to max a character:

Woot, fellow Dreamcaster! Did you play Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Jet Grind Radio, Grandia II, Resident Evil: Code Veronica or Soul Caliber?

That console had so much win. When PS2 outsold it a little part of me lost faith in humanity

Quote pyramid FTW! According to Bio and Lucas their MMO they are working on together has nothing to do with Star Wars what so ever. But then again, it wouldn't be the first time a company "lied"... I have been looking into it from time to time and there is rumor that a KOTOR based MMO could be in the works by Obsidian... I would love to have a KOTOR based MMO, if it's on par with the two games we've had so far. They are all time fav's with the Total War franchise for me. Not to mention I have mods released and working on more for KOTOR TSL...
 
I did the Guild Wars and completed the game the first time around and had the character up to the highest level for a tank. Then got bored and went on to Lineage 2 and became a GM for the game. (now that was a hoot!) after that I went on back the FPS games COD4, AA, BHD, LW, BF2142, BF2 and several more and well then came along COV/COH.. (Oh and was in the top 10 in BHD for medic's and kill's at one time) <<<< Yea I could pick a person off the hill side with a plain old M60 or a CAR15!!&nbsp;
