windows 8

what do you guys think of it (windows 8) how does it compare with windows 7 cause i was thinking on buying it has it only cost 30€ right now and the offer ends on the 31

I've been using it for the past month. At first, I kind of regretted switching. You have to get used to a new UI that's completely different from the standard bar-and-icon layout of every Windows OS since the dawn of time.

But, now that I've gotten used to it, I think it's kickass. In fact, it may be one of the best operating systems I've ever used.

The biggest thing is the load times. It boots instantly. I have Windows 7 on my laptop and the difference is night and day. I hate going back to W7 because it now feels painfully slow.

What's also nice about Windows 8 is it feels modern. Windows 7 just felt like a really slick version of XP. This is a whole different beast — it's very intuitive and easy to switch between applications (think Minority Report style management of programs).

The only downside right now is the app store. Not too much stuff on there, especially if you're used to Apple's app store. But almost everything is free.

Last point: if you use a lot of social media, i.e. Facebook. This OS has a lot of integration. And I think this is the future. Your social media basically becomes a part of your user experience every time you log in.

In conclusion: buy Windows 8.

I've been using Windows 8 on work computers for the past couple of weeks, its really not as bad as everyone says. Like Tryden said it does take time to get used to the UI but overall its quick. Actual benchmarks have it running faster than 7. Pretty much instead of a start button that opens your programs, the OS boots into the "start button" and then you can switch to your desktop which functions as it does now. Over all i would say buy it, after today i know it goes to $200 USD.

already got it and also the media center upgrade that was free till the 31 now i'm going to wait to instal it has i'm planing on geting new cpu motherboard and ram

I tried the W8 beta and I didn't really mind it, but I felt like I was losing some of the nitty gritty functionality that I like with the old versions. I felt that windows 8 was more of an 'out of the box' experience. It sort of made my desktop pc into a big immovable touchscreen tablet where I couldn't actually touch the screen. I got used to it after a week, but my boyfriend -hated- it. We switched back after two weeks.

I personally like being able to completely change and customize my things, I don't use social media except for twitter, and I only really use twitter for Vin and random thoughts. My conclusion: Meh.
