Zip Drive / Program Question

Has anyone ever installed a program on to a zip drive so you can have that particular program when you need it by plugging in the zip drive? Thinking about installing Photoshop on my zip drive since I am not allowed to have the program on a certain computer due to it being a work computer.   (stinking IT Techs and their bullshit think they are god over PC's)

It's doable to a certain degree.  Alotta programs though may not run without certain lines of code in the registry even if it is installed but was moved or something.  I'd say it's worth a try.  The worst that may happen is said lines in the registry won't be there and the program will say it's not installed even though you know it is (on the zip drive I mean).

Hanna had to work on a computerized loom that had a flash drive with a program on it as well as the digital key and when she popped that drive into the comp it was just ducky.

Yeah, I've run simple programs like AIM from a jump drive, but something like Photoshop will want registry stuff for pirating prevention purposes. Though I do have an old edition of Paint Shop Pro that I can do that kind of thing with, but I doubt newer programs will run like that.

Well it is a older program "Photoshop 7.0" so it might well be worth a try. That IT Tech is kicking my ass since the Company wants things done but will not allow me to install the program. So I have to use it at home and zip drive the project back to work. The phuckstick has my home email blocked as well so I have to try the next best idea I have.

Not sure which loom Jared is refering to, but none of the school ones work just like that, but that's besides the point of the thread.

If you installed the program onto your computer and then move that whole folder over onto your zip drive, then there might be some problems.

If you installed the program and chose its destination to be on the zip drive then it should work just fine.&nbsp; Just make sure that you have plenty of space on the zip drive after the program is installed.&nbsp; It will load, run, and probably take a&nbsp;bit longer to save, but it'll work.

Thanks for the replies... I was a bit fustrated when I wrote the thread. Its not a zip drive its actually a Flash Drive.. my bad for the confusion... I did however just move the entire folder to the drive and it didn't work. It was missing 1 file. I am assuming it is the regis. file not sure. I haven't tried to actually install&nbsp;the program&nbsp;on the drive though I just slid the whole folder into it.

Yea, we figured it was a Flash Drive anyways

But yea, like I said, moving the file itself might not work; you'll have to execute the install file and save its destination on the flash drive itself.
