Prof Dak's Q&A Thread

Fury in PvP is bugged and my newest Brute, Bagan, won't be sittingthere beating on someone for very long since he's Energy Melee/Invul,especially once Fury gets fixed.

How is it bugged right now you ask? Our Fury is building at therate of beating on a minion when it's supposed to build as if we'rebeating on an AV, which would double or triple it's generationrate. See the problem? Yeah, once it gets fixed, Brutes aregonna be major trouble.
Positron and Castle said that it wasn't working right however it wont be fixed with i7 doubt it will fixed any time soon since the devs got their hands full with i7 issues. Anyway many things devs have said wasn't working correctly but haven't bothered to fix it (def debuffs vs resis debuffs, Tohit buffs & def etc) due to balance issues. Heck it took them this long for them just to buff domination.

I just told you dumbass, they'regonna change it so that it builds as if we're fighting an AV instead ofa minion.
Oh, so there is a difference from fighting anAV as opposed to a LT or minion? See, ive never really played onepast lvl 10 or so.

Yeah theres a HUGE difference when fighting AV's or GM's rather thanminions or LT's. They hit harder, thus, pissing you off morewhich generates Fury quicker.

Ahhh. With this knowledge, I might actually think harder about making a Brute of some kind. What are some good sets with well rounded attributes? And Dark Melee isnt really very fun to me, but i am willing to be sold on it if you have info about it that i mights not know. I know that your good with it Hell, but i dont see it being used all that often.

Typically, dark/* isn't used often because of its utility. It has few solid attacks in it but a bunch of utility attacks. Most people don't consider the siphon life an attack. Same with ToF, and the end recovery power. However, used properly, these attacks make it near impossible to beat you. At least one on one.

Stone is good because of its front loaded dmg, however, its slow and high end cost make it less than optimal. But there are no other sets that I know of with a DPS that equals stone melee. The utiliy of Stone melee is it's knockdown and disorients. Very useful. But again, high end.

Energy Melee is simple, straight-forward, low end use powerset. But! Its lower dmg than others with less utility until 28 and 32 respectively.

Fire Melee has dots and can be used well. I don't like it because I think its a little slow in the animation department to make it optimal.

Super Strength is widely used, and is a solid all around set. Good DPS plus the RAGE power with increases acc and dmg. Plus the DMG buff from Rage stacks with Fury. And Rage can be made Perma. This is a typical design of most SS users. Solid set

For a secondary, Stomp, if you want mobility, DON'T TAKE STONE ARMOR! You can take a shit pot of dmg, but you can't move. Other than that, do you want resists or defense? If you want resistances against EVERYTHING (including psionics) with great utility, take Dark Armor. Again, high end cost, but the utility is worth it.

Other than that, look at the secondaries to see what each has to offer. Ask about specific sets and I can help you more. Hell is the expert on dark, but I'm pretty well rounded on the rest.

Correction; Hell is well rounded on all things Brute. Heres how all the sets break down.

TP can be used both while in rooted and granite. Its not exact but it lets ou move.

Very nice synopsis there Hell. Mucho information. Thank you much. Based on the info, i think a Dark/Dark brute might be fun. The double fear aspect will be very nice in the later lvls, as it isnt much resisted (to my knowlege anyways). What do you think about going with the presence pool? And the Leadership pool for that matter? Is the Darl armor like super reflex's, meaning do i need every power in the set? And thanks again for all the info guys.

Hmmm NEED all the powers? You may want them all depending on what you want to do with it. Example. You have Death Shroud. A dmg aura. The fear cloak is almost useless if you have both of them running. Target gets feared, hit, and can attack. A lot of DA is situational. You want to micromanage your toggles to deal with the situation at hand. Rarely do you want them all running.

That said, the amount of aggro you can gain with the death shroud is great and so you can build Fury pretty quick. If you build fury and then swap to fear aura, you have full fury with fewer things hitting you so you can take em out with less risk to yourself.

Again, it depends what you want to do. I've never gotten a dark/dark anything past 20 so I've ever really seen it shine at the later levels. Having been the victim of fear though, it is hard to resist but in PvP remember how many folks carry breakfrees.

Hell, your thoughts? Clarifications?

No, do not take the crappy presence pool, you will be laughed at andshunned. Secondly, if you plan on PvPing, Dark Melee isn't allthat great, go either Energy Melee or Super Strength. Fear isvery powerful, but only really helps if your teamed with someone or thetard your fighting has no BF's.

LoL, I do tend to find that most the people I fight are Tards. But doesnt it take multiple break frees to release you from the fear? And what if i use both the one from dark melee and the power pool. Also, how widely resisted is it in PvE?

Bosses resist it pretty regular like. In PvP its more of a defense thing vice resistance to it. The BFs, well, they only have so many right? Yeah you can stack em, but wait for the BF to go off first then hit em again. The BFs give a pretty good resistance to it so you'll need to stack em. Again, they can only carry so many, but if they have 5 of em, the fight has to last long enough to use em and if they have BFs, they may just attempt to stay out of range and kite. If its a melee type, if he's smart, he'll attempt to joust you or just leave you be. Fear is annoying as all hell in PvP.

No, BF's negate any type of mez for it's duration. Meleers willoften kite your ass and squishies will usually run when you attackthem. You'd be wasting 3 powers if you grab the fear power in thePresence pool, plus it sucks and isn't worth it.

ToF is the best thing since sliced bread for DM because not only ofit's Fear mez, but it has a nasty acc debuff attached also which is whythey usually whiff if they attack you. I don't spam ToF to fearyou idiots, I spam it to floor your acc so that you never hit me withanything. Thats why the tard Blasters who think I'm an easy killwhen they TP me to a safe location and hit build up, I just ToF themand floor their acc and beat the crap outta them.

It's funny to watch them fill the chat channels with "nerf fear, omfg!"when they get owned from TPing me into melee range of themselves.

Heh. Major flaw of TP Foe. 5 foot range.

I didn't know ToF had -acc. I knew most of the others did but wasn't aware that ToF did as well.

5 foot range?

Ahhhh got it. I never had to place anyone further than right next to me so i didnt know that. Then again, you have the Heros that i just love (yes that is sarcasm) that will TP you high into the air and while your there, let you drop while activating a built up snipe. Gotta love those cheap shots.

Yeah, I do that all the time in Sirens and Warburg. I'll be highup on a building and see someone, then hit TP Foe and que up ToF. I TP them to the edge of a building where they'll drop, but my ToF hitsand fears them so they can't move when they smack the ground and then Ijust go down and pumel whats left of them.

that will be hard to pull off, WB is filled with stalkers any person you fear will get ased followed by placate and AS on you. Assuming the person doesn't do what i do all the time which is the moment i get tped i hit jump.

Even with a jump, the way the power is designed, I can still get a shot off. Granted, if I don't kill you with that shot you're free to go, but there is always the possibility of Stun...

Dak, the hero planner I have doesn't have the debuff numbers for Dark Blast. What are the base numbers for -acc?
