Your Daily Songza

New Grimes jam.

From her tumblr:

Sup! heres the video for the song Go that me and blood diamonds wrote :) co directed by me and my brother mac

It’s supposed to be dante’s inferno (abstractly), different layers of hell etc. super visually inspired by like x men, metal gear, dune. haha, maybe thats too all over the place and doesn’t make sense, but yea, enjoy!

also special thanks to everyone in it: blood diamonds, david hayter (for doing the crazy voice @ the beginning), and the dancers (Nicki, natsuki, hana and rey!)

Last time I was this excited about a young rapper was Earl Sweatshirt when he put out Doris.

On that note, let's appreciate Chum again.

Now it's time to delve into my past — my black metal past. A band I greatly admired, before they became too mainstream (hipster.jpg), was Wolves in the Throne Room. While I never had the chance to see them live, it sounded like it would be an amazing experience. These fuckers live and record their music in a cabin out in the woods with no running water. An occasional female collaborator rides out on horseback to record with them.

Apparently they smell so fucking awful, any venues they play at have to be hosed down afterward. They don't permit flash photography and all their concerts are firelit.

Their musical statement is to channel "the landscape of the Pacific Northwest into musical form." This will obviously elicit a nod from any fans here of classical music, where one of the great pursuits was to try and capture the essence of natural wonders, such as the ocean, into music. (See Claude Debussy's La Mer as an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOCucJw7iT8.)

Anyway, I've long given up on black metal, so not sure what their most recent stuff is like. But Two Hunters was a phenomenal album.

The lyrics:

Behold all that you now know... evil, evil

Let's to the darkest place we know
Outside of the rider's domain
To the heart of the wood
To the hidden places
To the clearing in the forest enchanted

Yes, to the darkest place that we know
Outside of the rider's domain
To the heart of the wood
To the hidden places beyond the briar thickets

The dance must begin as dusk gathers around

Our skin drum and rattle
Know the tune
Jaw bone driven through
The skull of a great foe
Bested with wooden spear
The tip hardened in fire

Bathe in the clear cold stream
Fresh water from the unsullied endless spring that flows from the mountain
We will sing the most ancient song
Spark the fire upon dry tinder

The dance must begin as dusk gathers around

Our skin drum and rattle
Know the tune
Jaw bone driven through
The skull of a great foe
Bested with wooden spear
The tip hardened in fire

The Jennifer Lopez/Iggy Azalea collaboration we've been waiting for our whole lives.

The age old question 'are you a tits or ass man' seems kinda one sided watching this video. ;)

New Lorde single? DON'T MIND IF I DO

In light of news that Morrissey is battling cancer, let's take a moment to reflect on the forefather of indie and the man who gave us The Smiths.

Damn, you guys are all

And I'm just sitting here like

I spent the morning catching up with the music recs, and I am thoroughly impressed. Y'all can DJ my birthday parties, open invitation.
I really hope that music will continue to be posted here by anyone who feels the urge.
Tryden, I want to point out that I liked every post here except for the Grimes song. You really let the group down with that one. FOR SHAME.
I'm just an asshole, I didn't even listen to it.

My offering is twofold: First, a song that isn't particularly good, but makeup envy is now a thing in my life and the idea of dropping five stacks on my makeup bag gives me shivers.

Second, it's that motherfucking time of year!!! AW YEAH, HOLIDAY MUSIC! This is possibly my most well loved Halloween song. I know you have one, what's yours?

So I've had Vince Staples' new album on spin the past week. Verdict: THIS SHIT IS DOPE.

Now let's go back to 2012, when Joey Bada$$ and Flatbush Zombies hit the scene and helped kick off the Beast Coast Movement.

Oh yeah and this old video of Joey giving a tour of his high school is super endearing.

Well it's time for a little EDM plug. Techno was one of my favorite genres when growing up thanks to DDR, Initial D, and Sandstorm. So it's only natural for me to get caught in this phase of EDM and other new electronic genres.

Alright let's start with Invalyd Feat. Jonny Rose - Let Your Heart Go (Laidback Luke edit)

Catchy song and good music video
